The Captain's Map
From Robert Louis
Stevenson's TREASURE ISLAND
Bo Press, Riverside CA, 2008
A Map Portfolio
2 1/4" x 1 1/4"
I hadn't read this classic adventure story since childhood. These lines
still raise the hair on the back of my neck:
"
There were several additions of a later date, but above all, three
crosses in red ink - two on the north side of the island, one in the
southwest, and, beside this last, in the same red ink, and in a small,
neat hand, very different from the Captain's tottery characters, these
words: BULK OF TREASURE HERE"
Besides, there's no better place in fiction to learn how to talk like a
pirate.
The
portfolio is bound in French marbled paper with an overlay of torn
black kid leather. The interior is lined with deep yellow-gold paper,
and contains a
tinted copy of the map (8 1/2" x 5 1/2" unfolded) on the recto, and the
pertinent lines from the poem on the verso. The front of the
portfolio has embedded in
it a gray metal skull-and crossbones, guaranteed to strike fear into the
heart of any honest sailor or merchant, If you're a miniature pirate,
this is the map for you!
Also avaiulable in a microminiature version:
