A wide-ranging bestiary (pisciary?) of creatures that live, or once lived, or might have lived, in water. The list includes salt- and fresh-water specimens from folklore and legend, and the recent discoveries of almost extraterrestrial looking organisms from the very deep ocean. Each example is accompanied by a contemporary quotation about its history or poetic meaning, if I could find one, and a short description, if not. The book is bound in Italian paper printed with 19th century fish illustrations. Since the fish are very large and the book is very small, the pattern will be different on every copy.
