The map describes the descending levels of the ocean (Sunlight, Twilight, Midnight, and Abyss), and the descending geography ( Continental shelf, Slope, Rise, Basin, and Trench), and indicates the location of Lost Cities, Famous Shipwrecks, and Fabulous and Mythical Creatures. The cartouches come from the maps of the House of Blaeu.
The gatefold binding is a mottled dark blue paper, wrapped with a variegated silk ribbon secured by a pewter button with a Celtic knot design. The closure is a magnetic clasp surrounded by a design in green lizard paper.
The interior is lined in a shell-patterned paper with a detached envelope of the same paper containing the map, under a tan paper slipband. The wings of the portfolio are lined with the same tan paper.

The portfolio is bound in dark blue mottled paper, wrapped with a variegated silk ribbon secured by a pewter button with a Celtic knot design. The interior is lined with a Japanese cherry blossom paper, and the tan paper envelope containing the map is glued to the interior.
