The Streets of Laredo
29 pages, 18 illustrations
1 3/8" x 1 7/8"
A sad
Come-All-Ye ballad of the Old West, guaranteed to make grown men weep.
Written (or, at least, copyrighted) by Francis Henry Maynard in 1876,
the folk ballad had existed in various forms for many years before. A
young, dying cowboy warns others to beware of meeting his fate. This
tragic, yet folksy, little book is illustrated with
sepia-toned
photographs from the period. The endpapers are stereopticon views of a
cowboy gazing off into the desert.
Bound in worn and patched brown leather, with raised bands and
a paper title pasted on the front.
